Sixties Godard is recognizable from a distance - the films are playful, colorful, and (comparatively) accessible when seen against his more abstractly experimental work that began in the eighties and continues today. Godard's work has always been formally experimental, but PIERROT LE FOU represents a time before splicing in the films of other directors, a signature obsession with fart jokes, and mad subtextual intertitles or subtitles. PIERROT LE FOU is a caper. A couple on the run. All you need is a girl and... a pair of scissors. - SBP
