As with Gia Coppola's short documentary on her grandfather Francis Ford Coppola's TWIXT, any film made by a family member allows an immediate, unspoken level of access to which, in the best examples of the form's subset, literally nobody else is privy. Therefore, in so doing a filmmaker unconsciously documents both an event - in the case of Liv Corfixen's film the production of ONLY GOD FORGIVES - and an experience, a covetable state of nearness (proximity). Without much forethought, most shots are handheld and at eye-level; in other words, the viewer sees what she sees, even is Liv Corfixen in the sense that she is with rare exception exclusively heard and not seen. There are some odd structural ellipses and narrative dead ends that prevent this from being precisely great - it sort of has the feel of a DVD extra - but it is certainly good. Playing for 1 week on a double bill with ONLY GOD FORGIVES, excepting the opening night where Nicolas Winding Refn, Liv Corfixen, and composer Cliff Martinez will be present for post-show conversation.  - SBP
