DEAD PIGEON ON BEETHOVEN STREET - Director's Cut

  • Billy Wilder Theater (Hammer Museum) 10899 Wilshire Blvd Los Angeles, CA, 90024 (map)

A long time coming and much overdue, the UCLA Film & Television Archive presents their first all-digital restoration: Samuel Fuller's DEAD PIGEON ON BEETHOVEN STREET in a never-before-seen director's cut. The landmark restoration project began shortly after a screening I programmed while in grad school of the significantly shorter, theatrical release version of the film. DEAD PIGEON's star, Christa Fuller, was our special guest for the evening and brought with her a 16mm print of what turned out to be an altogether unseen cut of the film. Alongside the restoration, the first ever commercial DVD and Blu-Ray release of any version of the title is planned in both the United States - Olive Films - and Europe - Fiction Factory. This is one of the unmissable screening events of the year. DEAD PIGEON is an as-of-yet unheralded masterpiece, an undeniably pulpy piece of Fuller's spectacular filmography. The Director's Cut just confirms Fuller's wild, subversive genius. - SBP
