Part of The Academy's series on modern costume design entitled Street Clothes, the aim is to pair a well-known and respected picture with something more marginal, but equally worth your time and attention. TAXI DRIVER is undeniably great and Sony's 4K DCP looks spectacular, but the real highlight is a rare 16mm screening of Jules Dassin's UPTIGHT. My friend Nick Williams recommended Dassin's film to me almost two years ago and I was thoroughly impressed with the highly political tale of revolution - born out of necessity. Nobody trains to be a revolutionary, but there comes a time when one must do the right or wrong thing. The right thing, in both films, is never easy. - SBP
