THE ASTROLOGER is a 1975 cinematic marvel, the personal vision of Craig Denney. Not much is known about Denney or this until recently thought lost film, except that Denney was a real-life scoundrel who could never tell a fortune, but was a master manipulator. The film was discovered at the Alamo Drafthouse in early 2013, at an all-night lost film marathon that I co-programmed with Lars Nilsen and Chris Poggiali (Temple of Schlock). We undersold it from the start, saying "Please lower your expectations." At that time, we hadn't seen the film. Nobody had - in nearly forty years. It turned out to be fucking nuts. Everybody at that screening lost their minds. Now, thanks to a new digital scan and color correction, Denney's film is being seen again and finally appreciated as the astrologically significant oddball piece of outsider art that it unquestionably is - but where is Denney? Rumored dead of Hodgkin's Lymphoma, unfortunately, but co-star Arthyr Chadbourne seems convinced that Denney faked his death to avoid certain, uh, responsibilities. This is the third & final time Cinefamily will show THE ASTROLOGER. - SBP
