KInd of like all of TWIN PEAKS condensed into a two-hour runtime, but perhaps that comparison is ultimately unfair as RIVER'S EDGE is one of the most serious, sincerely exceptional films of the eighties. I first saw this film at a screening organized by UCLA's The Crank film and projection society while in grad school. Crispin Glover, who delivers a supernatural performance, introduced the film and afterwards the producers, screenwriter Neal Jimenez, and actor Daniel Roebuck conducted an all-too brief Q&A session. At the conclusion, Roebuck revealed he had brought a RIVER'S EDGE bomber jacket from the original video release and that he would give it to the first person who agreed to make a $100 donation to the charity of their choice. Without thinking, my hand went up. It was the coolest thing I had ever seen. I could not have lived with someone else wearing it around campus. Rest assured, I will be wearing the jacket at the evening's screening. - SBP
