Lost & Found Film Club: Sid Laverents, Amateur Auteur

  • The Cinefamily 611 N. Fairfax Avenue Los Angeles, CA 90036 (map)

Sid Laverents was a hobbyist and amateur filmmaker based in the San Diego area. He was also a one-man band and one of the most creative and inspiring outsider artists ever to have lived. Regrettably, he passed away at age 100 (!) in 2009, but left behind both short and feature-length works that are without exaggeration some of the most joyous motion pictures ever made. Superlatives aside, for the one-year anniversary of Cinefamily's Lost & Found Film Club they are partnering with the UCLA Film & Television Archive (which restored all of Mr. Laverents' films) for a one-of-a-kind showcase. UCLA F&TV film preservationist Ross Lipman in person for an introduction. - SBP
