If you can spare the Tuesday afternoon, this mid-career picture by John Cassavetes is about all the best things in life: love, hope, and the reckless pursuit of beauty. Minnie is a curator at LACMA (go figure!) who finds romance in an unlikely NYC transplant named Moskowitz. This is a family affair, with Cassavetes' wife Gena Rowlands as Minnie and frequent collaborator Seymour Cassel as Moskowitz. Legendary Hollywood wild man Timothy Carey makes an odd cameo in a diner. Hard to describe, but impossible to look away from his bellowing. It screens at an odd time, but the price is only $4 for the general public. You can't beat it. - SBP
