French Revolutionary: The Films of Jean-Luc Godard

  • American Cinematheque - Aero Theatre 1328 Montana Avenue Santa Monica, CA 90403 (map)

From 02/20 until 03/03, the American Cinematheque's Aero Theatre will host a series of Jean-Luc Godard double features. The first double bill on 02/20 begins with BAND OF OUTSIDERS (1964) -- the first Godard film I ever saw -- followed by VIVRE SA VIE (1962). It's not that I recommend one over another, but rather that I recommend picking at least one evening to see a couple works by a filmmaker and artist who truly redefined cinema as the central figure of France's Nouvelle Vague (new wave) movement. The selection is unique, as well, a cherry-picked selection of Godard in the predominantly playful 60s, the provocative 70s, and the experimental 80s. And each evening it's two times the Godard for the price of one! Take your pick. You can't lose. - SBP
