THE ASSASSINATION OF JESSE JAMES BY THE COWARD ROBERT FORD

  • American Cinematheque - Egyptian 6712 Hollywood Blvd Los Angeles, CA 90028

Director Andrew Dominik and Cinematographer Roger Deakins appear in person to discuss their critically well-received, Oscar®-nominated feature. Considered by many an underrated Hollywood offering that balances style with sufficient substance, it is currently experiencing a revival campaign. It is unclear whether this is fan-generated or the filmmakers are behind the push for widespread reconsideration, but the site - which aspires to "worldwide" revival screenings - so far documents events in NYC, AZ, and now LA. As an admirer of Paul Schneider's acting chops (and especially his turn as Mr. Brown in Jane Campion's 2009 BRIGHT STAR), I'm excited to see him on the big screen in the role that Campion loved. Afterwards, if you're still hankering for more to do with the wild west icon, make it a double-feature with cult director Samuel Fuller's first feature, I SHOT JESSE JAMES (1949). Available now via Criterion's Eclipse sub-label. - SBP
