  • American Cinematheque - Egyptian 6712 Hollywood Boulevard Los Angeles, CA 90028 (map)

Part of American Cinematheque's Animation for Adults series, the remainder of which is also worth your time. However, if I had to pick to pick just one evening to attend, it would be this remembrance of director Satoshi Kon. Kon died much too young in 2010 at age 46 (of pancreatic cancer), but left behind some of the most stirring and imaginative animation ever made. PAPRIKA (2006), in particular, is mind-bendingly original in a way that audiences most closely associate with INCEPTION. Not everybody saw PAPRIKA, but everybody certainly should. Here's your second chance. TOKYO GODFATHERS is icing on the cake. - SBP
